INTRODUCTION This paper outlines a research project into domestic violence recently completed at a community legal centre in Sydney's West. This project was the principal task during my final social work placement. In the course of the project several questions about the nature of research have arisen. Methodological points such as researcher's bias, what is meant by objectivity or neutrality, and the impact of the researcher's values on the project have all been areas of concern.
